Cartoon themed rooms, food, games and merchandise: The world’s first Cartoon Network Hotel opens today - PennLive

The new Cartoon Network Hotel opens at 6 a.m. on Friday (today) next to Dutch Wonderland at 2285 Lincoln Highway East in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County.

The new hotel is more just just a hotel, it’s a venue. Of course it has the cartoon themed rooms with televisions on the bunk beds and cartoons everywhere. But, there is also food, pools, games and a store.

Here are seven cool things to know about the world’s first Cartoon Network Hotel:

7. VIP suites

The hotel has 159 rooms but there are four that stand out (and cost more).

These are the hotel’s four VIP rooms known as “dream Suites”. The “dream suites” are located upstairs from the lobby in the main building. The dream suites come with a hefty price tag at $459. Although the price depends on the season. The room in the winter season seem to be available for $339, according to the hotel’s website.

And while the price tag may come with some sticker shock, if you have a large group it’s not out of the question since it is cheaper than two regular rooms. The hotel’s regular rooms seem to cost $169 in the winter months and $289 in the summer months.

The four spacious suites are each centered around a different cartoon: Adventure Time, Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls and Steven Universe.

The rooms can hold as many as six to eight people. While the four rooms vary a little. Here’s what’s included in the Adventure Time Suite. The suite has a separate bedroom with a master bath; two sets of bunk beds; 32-inch televisions connected to each bunk bed; a 75-inch television in the living area with custom Cartoon Network channels, Wi-Fi, kitchenette with a microwave and a mini fridge and a coffeemaker; a dining table with six chairs; an in-room safe; a tub room and a shower room.

Original sketches from Cartoon Network shows add a special touch to the dream suites. And the rooms are decorated with drawings and artwork as well as bright furniture.

6. Total Drama Pizza, Together Breakfast and Blueberry “Oh My Glob” Cake and other food creations

Food will play a big part in the hotel operations. The hotel’s main restaurant is the Cartoon Kitchen, which will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and will serve a number of Cartoon Network themed creations including:

· Lady Rainicorn Grilled Cheese - Melted rainbow cheese on thick sliced bread. Served with a side.

· Total Drama Pizza - Cheese pizza with a butter herb crust and pesto swirl.

· Together Breakfast - three large waffles, whipped cream, house-made seasoned popcorn, fresh strawberry and maple syrup.

· Blueberry “Oh My Glob” Cake - Layers of buttery cake spackled with Maine blueberries and layers of maple cream served with a side of house-made blueberry syrup.

· Lady Rainicorn Flight Ice Cream - six mini scoops of ice cream served with two cookies

The Cartoon Kitchen will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. for breakfast, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 4 to 10 p.m. for dinner.

And just as the hotel has VIP suites entitled “dream suites,” the restaurant has VIP areas called “dream cubes,” which are themed to “The Powerpuff Girls,” “Adventure Time,” and “Ben 10.” They seat up to eight people and can be rented for birthday parties and other special occasions.

The other main eatery at the Cartoon Network Hotel is the Bearista Café, which will offer coffee, tea, specialty drinks, sandwiches and snacks.

The café is located off the main lobby and will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily. There is a small bar area in the cafe. Adults can purchase alcoholic beverages after 11 a.m.

And for those people who live in the area or are visiting Dutch Wonderland or Tanger Outlets Lancaster, you can stop by as well. Both restaurants are open to the public.

For hotel guests, there will be three other options as well.

A seasonal outdoor concession stand near the outside pool, Land of P’Oool Concession Stand, will offer sandwiches, fruit cups, salads, ice cream, frozen treats and drinks.

The Kids’ Kitchen will offer daily classes and culinary-themed activities led by an activity staff. Some (but not all) of the activities will be free. There will be different activities – both culinary and arts and crafts - related to the Cartoon Network and there will be special holiday activities as well.

And finally if you don’t feel like leaving your suite, room service boxes will be available with items from Cartoon Network shows.

5. Exclusive souvenirs

The Cartoon Network Store is located right inside the front door at the hotel and will be open to the public. Hotel officials says that many of the items are exclusive to the store.

The store features items from Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time, Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, We Bare Bears, and The Amazing World of Gumball.

The store sells everything from toys and mugs to socks, bags, figurines, shirts, hats and keychains.

A sample of the prices include Cartoon Network hats at $18.99, Cartoon Network key chains at $12.99, cartoon socks at $12.99 and cartoon mugs at $14.99.

And just like the restaurants the store is open to the public.

4. Put yourself in the game

The hotel’s arcade, the Ben 10 Omnicade, is open around the clock every day of the week and has games like air hockey, skee ball and the claw machine. And visitors can earn tickets and turn them in for Cartoon Network merchandise.

But the arcade is just the beginning when it comes to games.

There are two virtual reality themed games next to the arcade where guests can immerse themselves in play.

And then, there is a kids Toon Room where there are several interactive activities.

  • You can color one of the characters from the Candy Kingdom and scan it in a cabinet and the character can come to life on the screen.
  • There is an interactive floor and visitors can run across the floor and they can reveal Cartoon Network characters.
  • There is a Summer Camp Island tagwall, which allows visitors to play a game by high-fiving the characters on the screen.
  • And finally, there is a “Powerpuff Yourself” area where visitors can answer a couple of questions and can see their character come to life.

3. Why stay inside in the summer?

Outside many of the rooms look right onto the courtyard where there is an outdoor pool, water slide, hot tub, splash pads and a concession stand. And there is an outdoor movie screen for shows daily, weather permitting. The outdoor pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There is also a separate facility with an indoor pool.

2. Cartoon themed rooms

The doors of each room are color coded and the rooms are themed around six shows: The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls, Steven Universe or We Bare Bears. When making reservations guests who share their favorite cartoon character have a good chance of being booked in the appropriate theme room.

Televisions in the rooms will play exclusive Cartoon Network channels and each room has piece of canvas art related to the show and cartoon themed pillows and bedding.

Bean bags are in all of the rooms as well as a refrigerator and a coffee maker. And if you have one of the bunk beds, you’ll have your own 32” television.

1. Cartoons, Cartoons, Cartoons

When you pull up to the hotel you can’t miss it – there are large sculptures of cartoon characters from the Cartoon Network’s “Adventure Time” on the roof of the hotel. A large sculpture of a Cartoon Network character named Jake, with an 8-foot-tall fiberglass sculpture of his buddy, Finn are sitting on the roof.

The elevator lights up with cartoons.

There are cartoons drawings and sayings all over the walls.

There is a store to buy Cartoon Network items.

The restaurants are cartoon themed.

Cartoon Network characters will make appearances.

The rooms are cartooned themed.

Televisions in the rooms will play exclusive Cartoon Network channels and each room has piece of canvas art related to the show and cartoon themed pillows and bedding

So yes, the Cartoon Network Hotel is full of cartoons.

Tyson McAdoo, the Cartoon Network’s associate director says that the six shows (The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls, Steven Universe and We Bare Bears) that the rooms are centered around were chosen because he says they are the network’s “bread and butter” and that’s why they were chosen to represent the hotel initially. But there’s a chance that other shows could be featured in the future, he said.

The original sketches from the Cartoon Network shows that are at the hotel add to this very cool experience.

Enjoy!
