Tis the season for tartan, houndstooth and — according to some of menswear’s heaviest hitters — cartoons, cartoons, cartoons. As a gift to fanboys everywhere, streetwear emporium Kith has joined forces with Disney on a playful collaboration celebrating Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary. The chance to make retail magic was a dream come true for Kith founder Ronnie Fieg.
“I still remember growing up in Queens, sitting on the carpet in my living room as my father popped in the VHS of ‘Fantasia’ for the first time,” Fieg recalled in a handwritten letter to the late Walt Disney himself, which he recently shared on Instagram. “These moments created the foundation on which my imagination grew.”
Todd Snyder x Champion
Launched last month, the collection — titled Best of Kith for the Best of Mickey — consists of around 80 styles, with clothing, shoes and accessories showcasing various renditions of Mickey Mouse from the 1920s to today. Prices range from $55 for a collectible plush toy to $900 for a Swarovski crystal-encrusted denim jacket featuring Disney’s famous rodent, circa “Steamboat Willie.”
Less decadent — but no less desirable — is the newest offering from New York designer Todd Snyder and his longtime collaborator Champion, who teamed up to create off-duty gear honoring another set of animated stars: the cast of Looney Tunes.
The lineup, which also dropped in November, takes Champion classics — from $90 T-shirts to $200 hoodies — and updates them with vintage illustrations of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and the rest of the crew. Plus, for Gothamites: a custom “New York Th-ity” graphic sweatshirt featuring lisping legend Sylvester the Cat.
Speaking about the collection, Snyder says: “I’ve loved Looney Tunes since I was young, so these classic characters really take me back. Getting to create a TS x Champion collection featuring these American icons made me feel like a kid in a candy store.”
That’s all, folks!
